“Haunted”

The girl all in white held the rose to her nose
And inhaled, breathing in life that she had not
Believed existed. But when she could inhale no more,
When she could no longer enjoy the flower’s dulcet scent,
The memories of other losses came flying unwanted back
To the forefront of her mind. Weeping, she dropped the rose
Upon the dirt and left the garden.
